March 24, 2025: Florida’s First Wave of Personal Injury Deadlines Begins
Founder & Principal Attorney
Today marks a critical turning point for Florida personal injury victims. Under the new law passed in March 2023 (House Bill 837), the statute of limitations for negligence-based personal injury claims was reduced from four years to two years.
This means that starting March 24, 2025, injured individuals who haven’t filed a lawsuit within two years of their accident will begin to lose their right to recover compensation—permanently.
What Does This Mean?
It’s important to understand that March 24, 2025 is not a one-size-fits-all deadline. Instead, it is the start of a rolling deadline system.
- For example, if you were injured in an accident on June 3, 2023, then your deadline to file a lawsuit is June 3, 2025.
- If your accident happened on October 10, 2023, your deadline would be October 10, 2025.
From this point forward, personal injury cases will begin expiring on a daily basis, based on the date of the accident.
Why This Matters
If you haven’t filed a lawsuit or formally settled your case, you could soon lose your ability to seek compensation—regardless of how strong your case is.
If you were injured in 2023 or early 2024, now is the time to act. Even if you're unsure about your claim status, we can help review your file, determine your deadline, and take action before it’s too late.
